Dr Orkhan Mir-Kasimov (PhD in Islamic Studies from聽, Paris, France) is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Ismaili Studies, London.
He is Senior Fellow of Higher Education Academy, his teaching focuses on Islamic history, Shi士i history and thought, and Islamic mysticism. Previously, he lectured at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes and the聽聽(INALCO) in Paris.
He was associate member of the Study of Monotheisms and Medieval Islam research units at the聽聽and worked at various research centres in France and Germany, including the Institute for Advanced Study of Nantes and the Free University of Berlin. He was the recipient of Alexander von Humboldt research fellowship (2009-2010).
He is the convenor of the聽Islamic History and Thought Lecture Series. Since 2020, he is the series editor of the聽Ismaili Texts and Translations Series聽published by the Institute of Ismaili Studies in London. He has published many journal articles and book chapters on various aspects of Islamic mysticism and messianism, focusing on the late medieval and early modern periods. He has edited and co-edited several volumes and authored the聽Words of Power: Hurufi Teachings between Shi士ism and Sufism in Medieval Islam聽(2015) and聽Christian Apocalyptic Texts in Islamic Messianic Discourse听(2017).
