Biography

Dr Aslisho Qurboniev is Research Associate in the Department of Academic Research at 鸟大大影院. He is a historian of the premodern Islamic world, with a focus on Fatimid and Ismaili history, cultural production, scholarly communities, and knowledge transmission in Arabic and Persian.

His research examines the Fatimid empire and the wider Islamicate world, with particular attention to cultural memory, manuscript traditions, textual transmission, and digital humanities. He works across Arabic and Persian sources and is interested in the movement, survival, reuse, and loss of texts over time.

Dr Qurboniev read Islamic Studies and History at the University of Oxford, where he studied Arabic and Ottoman Turkish, before completing his PhD at the University of Cambridge in 2020. After completing his doctorate, he joined the ERC-funded at the Aga Khan University鈥檚 Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations as a postdoctoral research fellow working on the Islamic West. There, he contributed to the and worked on computational approaches to Arabic book culture and cultural memory.

His current research combines manuscript studies and digital humanities, with a focus on the creation and analysis of corpora of Ismaili texts in Arabic and Persian.
